Reporting to the Manager of Data Science, the Data Scientist I is responsible for maintaining production models, monitoring the models for continued accuracy, modeling drifts, and helping to discover insights and identifying opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. This position builds and tests statistical models and machine learning algorithms with input from senior Data Scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design experiments, test hypotheses, and build models.
  2. Conduct data analysis and moderately complex algorithm.
  3. Monitor and maintain production models for accuracy and identify model drifts.
  4. Work with and alongside business analysts by suggesting other products.
  5. Assist in modeling and framing business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact critical business processes and/or decisions.
  6. Collaborate with Institute subject matter experts to select the relevant sources of information.
  7. Recommend ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information.
  8. Provide on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models.
  9. Communicate analysis and decisions to high-level stakeholders and executives in verbal, visual, and written formats.
  10. Collaborate with business leaders, subject matter experts, and decision makers to develop success criteria and optimize new solutions, features, policies, and models.
  11. Perform any other duties as required to ensure Health Plan operations and department business needs are successful.

Qualifications

Education & Requirement

  • Less than twelve (12) months of experience in analytics, data science, and business intelligence
  • Experience in developing algorithms, predictive analytics, or statistical models is required
  • Experience in analyzing large data sets that have complex designs that are unstructured, structured, and semi-structured is also required
  • Experience in the use of statistical packages is required
    • Experience in the areas of medical or health services is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or any non-related field along with a certification in data science from an accredited institution is required

 

Key Qualifications

  • Working knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
    • Manipulating large datasets and using database and general-purpose programming language (such as Hadoop MapReduce, Python, JavaScript, or other big data frameworks, Java)
    • Basic principles of distributed computing and/or distributed databases
    • Understanding new concepts down to the theorems and to come out with original solutions to mathematical issues
    • One or more business/functional areas
    • Diagnosis and procedure coding and medical terminology
    • Managed care, claims payment processes, and insurance terminology
    • Implementation of LLM Models and GenAI solutions
  • Strong analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • In addition to advanced analytic skills, this role is proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized databases and computing environments, and communicating end results
  • Proven ability to:
    • Demonstrate a commitment to support strategic priorities to become a 5 Star Health Plan and incorporate LEAN principles into daily work
    • Multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail
    • Solve complex problems
    • Be an independent self-starter who is driven to success, takes great pride in accomplishments and works with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and address competing priorities

Work Model Location

This position is on a hybrid work schedule. (Monday & Friday - remote, Tuesday – Thursday onsite in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.)

 

Schedule may adjust based on business need to attend to technical issues which may include evenings, holidays, and weekends

Pay Range

USD $104,041.60 - USD $137,841.60 /Yr.
