The Pharmaceutical Data Strategist plays a critical role in leading and executing high-impact pharmacy data initiatives that drive clinical excellence, operational performance, and enhanced member experiences. This position is instrumental in working with pharmacy leadership to propel the department in data-driven decision-making, improving and measuring health outcomes, optimizing resource utilization, and strategizing on evolving pharmacy programs/initiatives/operations across all lines of business.

Working cross-functionally, the strategist collaborates to design, implement, and refine pharmacy programs, analytics, and operating key results (OKRs) aligned with organizational priorities. Leveraging deep expertise in clinical systems, healthcare data analytics, and managed care pharmacy operations, the strategist transforms data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, apply clinical rules, and ability to troubleshoot data structure, storage and system issues.

In addition, the role ensures the integrity of pharmacy infrastructure through effective coordination with IT, and leads quality assurance efforts to maintain the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of pharmacy platforms and processes. A cornerstone of this role is the ability to transform the department from pharmacy reporting to high complexity pharmacy analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead Complex Data Initiatives: Execute independent work assignments and support pharmacy-focused projects by applying deep subject matter expertise and industry knowledge to craft innovative, data-driven solutions that accelerate strategic outcomes. Develop and validate performance metrics and algorithms to uncover actionable insights.
  2. Champion Analytics Advancement: Identify opportunities for analytic improvements across the department. Influence stakeholders and guide decision-making through data insights and consultative engagement to drive measurable improvements in pharmacy clinical and operational performance.
  3. Deliver Strategic Insights: Collaborate with business leaders, define key outcomes and process measures, and translate requirements into tailored data collection methods and analytics plans. Measure the impact of interventions and work with leadership to optimize pharmacy efficiencies and member experiences.
  4. Automate and Optimize Reporting Solutions: Architect and deploy dynamic business intelligence tools and pharmacy reporting solutions in collaboration with stakeholders. Ensure consistency, scalability, and usability across data platforms while documenting processes and key findings.
  5. Communicate Value Through Visualization: Design and produce compelling dashboards, data reports and visualizations to communicate insights. Highlight strategic opportunities and present findings to stakeholders in clear, actionable formats that foster transparency and engagement.
  6. Support Infrastructure and Quality Assurance: Partner with IT and system teams to uphold pharmacy infrastructure integrity, coordinate technical efforts, and lead QA initiatives that ensure the reliability and compliance of data environments and clinical rule sets. Systematically gather, validate, and integrate data from multiple clinical and operational sources.
  7. Perform any other duties as required to ensure Health Plan operations and department business needs are successful.

Qualifications

Education & Requirements 

  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience in a managed care pharmacy setting, including experience using pharmacy data and quantitative data analysis to manage pharmacy and financial business processes and goals in health plan setting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is required
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)/RPH from an accredited institution
  • PharmD or RPH (any state) preferred

 

Key Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of pharmacy managed care business operations
  • Expert knowledge of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) standards for pharmacy data and data exchanges. Possess a strong understanding of pharmacy data, regulations, health plan quality measures, pharmacy benefits and financials and direct experience in a manage care setting
  • Working knowledge of drug classification systems
  • Expert proficiency in data analysis techniques and platforms (e.g., SQL, Tableau, etc.) such as designing relationship databases, complex query logic, and data modeling to drive concise insights for the organization
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and excellent organizational skills
  • Translate technical analysis of data into business-friendly summaries and executive presentations utilizing design tools where applicable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong curiosity to leverage data to identify cost savings, improve medication use and guide data driven solutions and decisions
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to translate complex data analysis and findings into summaries that are easy to understand and are audience-appropriate
  • Expert at explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Must have a high degree of patience and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with time-sensitive deadlines is required
  • Must be an expert self-starter who can work across functions, plan and prioritize independently, and actively participate in discussions
  • Ability to lead and execute pharmacy financial, utilization technical, analytical, and reporting efforts for the Pharmacy Department
  • Position is eligible for telecommuting/remote work location upon completing the necessary steps and receiving HR approval. All IEHP positions approved for telecommute or hybrid work locations may periodically be required to report to IEHP’s main campus for mandatory in-person meetings or for other business needs as determined by IEHP leadership

Pay Range

USD $135,200.00 - USD $179,129.60 /Hr.
