Under the direction of the Financial Reporting Supervisor, the Accountant II - Financial Reporting performs professional accounting activities, general accounting functions, and related business transactions in the preparation of the organizational financial statements in compliance with GAAP, state and federal regulatory requirements, and organizational policies (standards). Maintains, or supports maintenance of the General Ledger and Financial Reporting systems and provides management reports, as needed.  Coordinates work with others in the Finance and other Divisions. Participates in the audit of the organizational financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Complete the month-end close in an accurate and timely manner including but not limited to preparing monthly journal entries, financial statement analyses, and balance sheet reconciliations in compliance with standards.
  2. Partner in research technical accounting topics and assist in the implementation of GASB pronouncements as needed and/or requested by Supervisor and/or Manager.
  3. Process financial data sets efficiently and effectively using moderate to advanced MS Excel, SQL, and/or MS Access.
  4. Identify, research, and resolve accounting issues.
  5. Continuous process improvements, standardization, and documentation of all responsibilities including policies, processes, procedures, workpapers, supporting schedules, reports, and related accounting and business activities.
  6. Collaborate in the annual financial audit process.
  7. Cross train other/on other Accountants’ responsibilities for back up to avoid disruption in monthly deliverables.
  8. Work collaboratively across different teams to communicate and resolve issues and/or to complete responsibilities.
  9. Gather, monitor, and analyze financial data, report and advise on accounting discrepancies, and utilizes professional judgment in the performance of accounting and financial activities to support financial reporting and decisions.
  10. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) for all areas of responsibilities.
  11. Update job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted industry practices and completing professional development courses.
  12. Perform ad-hoc analysis and projects as needed and/or requested by Supervisor and/or Manager.
  13. Any other duties as required ensuring Health Plan operations are successful.

Qualifications

Education & Requirements 

  • Four (4) or more years of proven and relevant accounting work experience in Corporate General Accounting as Financial Reporting Accountant or similar role that would have developed the knowledge and abilities listed, including experience assisting with financial audits is required
  • Principles and practices of the health care industry and/or health care accounting experience is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/ Finance or a related field from an accredited institution required
  • Possession of an active, unrestricted, and unencumbered Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License issued by the California Board of Accountancy preferred

 

Key Qualifications

  • Adequate knowledge of GASB and FASB Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  In-depth understanding of accounting concepts and procedures and advising on automated accounting systems
  • Annual completion of professional development courses and other educational opportunities to update job knowledge and improve skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced MS Excel and accounting software skills are required
  • Self-motivated and focused on the goals and objectives of the organization
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization and develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members of all levels and departments, programs, agencies, and the general public
  • Strong abilities in time management, organization, prioritizing, and maintaining confidentiality

Work Model Location

Telecommute (All IEHP positions approved for telecommute work locations may periodically be required to report to IEHP’s main campus for mandatory in-person meetings or for other business needs as determined by IEHP leadership)

Pay Range

USD $80,059.20 - USD $106,059.20 /Yr.
